Historically, I haven't been one to contribute to political causes. I'm not crazy about the role of money in politics and I've preferred to donate any money to NGOs. Still, whether we like it or not, money does rule politics and the best way of improving this country and this world, right now, is getting rid of this administration. This administration is committed to fighting against human rights, the environment, health care, education and any and all causes that might serve the people rather than themselves and their cronies. We need them out. So, I, too, am biting the bullet and I've started to contribute to political causes. MoveOn is one of my favorites as it's very grass-root oriented. I urge you to contribute as well.

Every dollar we raise is one step closer to breaking the Republican stranglehold on Congress in November2006 is our best opportunity yet.
Last week Debra from New York City e-mailed and asked me to write more about the difference between Republican control and Democratic control of Congress. I thought for a day or so and decided that the best way to describe this was by talking about the people who will lead when Democrats win control of the House.
Taking just the House of Representatives, here is a small slice of who will be leading:
Nancy Pelosia progressivebecomes Speaker of the House of Representatives.
John Murthaa veteran and anti-war championwould become chair of the House subcommittee on defense appropriations. He would be in charge of the budget for the war in Iraq.
John Conyerswho forced a national debate on the Downing Street Memoswould be chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.
Henry Waxman would be chairman of the Government Reform committeehe has a bulls-eye on war profiteers like Halliburton.
Barney Frankwho has led efforts to rein in out-of-control CEO paywould be in charge of the Financial Services Committee.
David Obeywho led opposition to the Republican budgetwould be chair of the House Appropriations committeeprotecting Medicaid, food stamps, veteran's benefits, student loans and more.
Charles Rangelwho predicted the Medicare debaclewould be chair of the House Ways and Means committeeprotecting Social Security.
George Millera big advocate for working peoplewould be chair of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce and could bring a vote to raise the minimum wage.
That is just a samplesix of these eight are either members or founders of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Put aside for a minute any disappointment you might have in the Democrats overallthese leaders are what we'll get if we win in November. They are champions on issues we all care about.
Victory in 2006 is possible and our big plan will make a difference. If each of us does our part we can fund the plan. Can you contribute? Click below.

We can put progressive leaders in control of Congress when we break the Republican stranglehold on Congress. Hope is coming.
Thanks for all you do.
